Woes of Men

I walk into a party,

Or open my Facebook account,

Or switch to a reel,

Or a Tik-Tok or an Instagram post,

If that was not enough,

The movies, plays, jokes,

All point at  poor  men,

Who lose their independence,

Once they are married,

Lose their independence!

Did you say?

That makes me smile,

Smirk, grin and laugh cynically,

Usually women are,

The butt of jokes,

The ones who nag, complain,

And trouble the poor souls,

Well, the women have emerged,

From their homes ,

To their workplaces,

And are managing both with elan,

But some wise men refuse,

To adopt their home,

They do not shy from,

Burdening their wives,

With additional roles,

A nurturer, a bread winner,

While themselves smug,

With the reduced role,

Of the breadwinners,

The women have to manage,

Jobs, parents, siblings, hubby,

Children, clan and the extended family,

And in-laws who are to be treated,

As Gods,

Men get tired,

Really exhausted,

After a day’s work,

They have to rush to Thailand,

With other troubled souls like them,

To ease their burden,

And to relax and rejuvenate,

While the  women,

Relax with their children,

Hearing their incessant chattering,

Grumbling, shrieks and laughter,

The men need to relax every evening,

While  women are super-women,

Who need no relaxation or respite,

Yet, the joke is on the women,

Who are grappling with the patriarchy,

And finding their own identity,

Maintaining harmony,

Building homes,

And spreading happiness.
